Kellie Mary Duggan was born on October 13, 1988, in Brooklyn, New York, and moved in 1994 to Guilford, Connecticut. Kellie was a graduate of Guilford High School, where she played field hockey and was the editor of the yearbook. For two years in high school, Kellie received both a yearbook award and a coaches’ award for field hockey. She was also awarded a Rotary college scholarship and the Ted DeLauro Scholarship. When she died, Kellie was a senior at Siena College in Albany, NY, where she was a social work major and member of the women’s rugby team. Kellie was an active parishioner and peer minister at St. George Church in Guilford and went on several mission trips to Haiti. She loved the water and spent several years as a lifeguard and swim instructor. She was the assistant waterfront director for the Guilford Recreation Department and now has a dock named for her at Lake Quonnipaug. Kellie died at age 21 on January 3, 2010, at her home in Guilford, losing her 10-month battle with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone cancer.
